It depends I have had lots of success for my personal airbnb in small cities that have limited hotels plus not a lot of competition but still see traffic.

Place a sign on the property: If you have a lot of foot traffic near your property, you may want to consider placing a sign on the property to advertise the availability of the rental.

My point is that the which is the best place to have a vacation rental is way too simplistic. let's just say I am in a town that gets good tourist traffic, but you can buy houses for a low cost.

Generally, I keep at or slightly below others if I want to aggressively drive traffic and rent quick. 

I advertise on CL, and because there is street traffic, I put out heavy signage so EVERYONE knows units are available, and tell their family/friends, etc..The street traffic from either side can see the signs as they drive down the street.

Also, if enough traffic is generated employees will potentially create profiles to reinforce what a great product it is.
