It is really more symbolic than anything. 

@Kevin Fox,I did not know that I had to put the @ symbol in front of your name and I thank you for informing me of that.

Like seeing a bank's name, then somewhere it will say : "Member F.D.I.C." and usually in small print as it is a requirement when advertising the bank's name.Might consider the Equal Housing Symbol too if you deal at all in residential property, that too can be small and balance the appearance of a business card. :)

Use the @ symbol. 

You type the @ symbol followed by the first three letters of their name.

It's definitely a status symbol in this region, and IMO not nearly as convenient to load kids into as a minivan, and not as cost effective.

As an Aside always remember to use the "@" symbol when referencing a member as using the symbol will populate the persons name and prompt a response to you.
