And when you pay the invoice, in the Memo line of the check, reference the invoice number you're paying and, assuming you are paying it in full, write "Paid in full" or "Final payment" to keep Mechanics Liens out of your life.To avoid confusion, I tell my contractors before they start that they will be getting a 1099 from me at the end of the year and collect the required information right then.

I'm at a point where I could probably consider myself financially free now, but it would probably take me at least a year or two to properly convert everything to core cash-flowing assets. 

I know that hiring the guy/girl who does something day in and day out is way better than me at it, and can save me time/money/frustrations.

You can as long as the contract does not specifically disallow it,  but it would be unusual for there to be enough meat on the bone in today's market for three levels of investors.
