I had a lady rent our beach condo from Sunday to Saturday (not the normal Saturday to Saturday we do and it was discounted accordingly and she knew this) and the cleaning crew came that Saturday to start doing the linens and such and they were all sitting there ready to go to the beach.

You might be able to get some random Edison technician to say, "Well, I guess it would be okay," after eyeballing it, but that's no guarantee that after you buy the property, Edison or Long Beach or someone comes along and says you can't. 

My 7 unit is about 3300 a month net (about 20% net )  so a bit shy of the 1k per week, but hey I'm on the beach in FL while my props in Cleveland support my life :) I wish you all the best in your endeavors Rock on!   

We are interested in buying a beach house that we would rent out part time through weekly vacation rentals and would enjoy ourselves the rest of the time.

Atlantic beach is the only area I understand to have a min of 90 days for a STR. 

Oh and poor you, you might feel compelled to show up at the beach club and have a tequila or two ;).Also, I understand you're a fellow Canadian.
