Land contract emerged as the most attractive alternative financing in the last two recessions.

My corporate office is right in downtown Chicago we have seen condo purchase go out over the last 12-18 months. 

We've been helping several investors find such properties over the last few months (I'm a Realtor).

For an additional $100 I can buy a quality Delta kitchen faucet from Ferguson or other local supply houses  that will last me years. 

Lastly, I don't know what your long term plans are, but having a house to return to in the States if your international adventures don't work as planned can be a good safety net for you!
