Something I do is check for stability in their lives..i casually ask about their job, how long they have been there etc..it's not a requirement, but if someone has nothing to hide, they'll be happy to talk about it..how long they have been at their present employer..are they married, families tend to stick around longer than single people..are they leasing a car?

Then put in a solid garage door, that you can't see through (no iron gates, in other words.)This will hide the junk from view, and keep it safer, too.  

Once you're in a place that knows the truth, you'll feel so much better mentally and emotionally because you won't feel like you always have to be on guard about hiding something. 

There is a key override on the locks too so maybe you can hide a key somewhere on the property just in case it is ever needed?

J. beard not hiding at all. or expecting to have that from a pm. the mistakes have been plenty for example manager gave ok to tenant to move larger furniture in 7 days before lease starts. and they slept there, thinking they could 'move in'.

They had painted the ceiling black to hide it.
