Today, it has become conventional wisdom that people should pay taxes and, furthermore, the taxes should be "progessive", which basically means, based on Tim's numbers, 20% of the people end up paying for 80% of the expenses and perhaps another 20% paying nothing.This system has been accompanied by the ever-increasing size of the government.
