Welcome to landlording ..........this is the stuff that will have you thinking about retiring early if you do this long ehough...........I've been doing this for longer than I can remember and while I think I have seen it all and are pretty good at sizing up deadbeats.......they still slip through even to this day........     

Dent is that six months from now the phoney Employment number is going to be cut by 50,000 workers who are Retiring from the Labor Market by 10,000 or more a month.

I currently work at Audi Seattle selling and leasing the nicest luxury vehicles on the road today :-) My first real estate goal would be to purchase a multi family residence, live in it, rehab it, and use the cash flow to pay down the debt.My long-term real estate goal would be to build a portfolio that would allow me to retire from going to a 9-to-5 job.I came to join bigger pockets to connect with a community of like-minded people and to help contribute to the community where I can.Thanks for reading! 

@Rick Alvi in general your personal residence is protected through homestead rules and retirement accounts (401K/IRA) are also protected. 

My goals are to become a full-time real estate investor in the future and to save up for retirement.

That said, it's an individual choice because there are individual factors: retirement, marginal tax rates, writing off interest payments, etc.

So as I read, watch videos, and listen to BP Podcast more and more on the topic of REI, I've decided to begin planning for early retirement.

You can mention that your new handyman is a retired police officer from a drug task force hehe.
