In my location this is not common as most low income people can't afford the 100K to 120K house and if they wanted to move into another location they would have to travel at least 25 miles out.

As someone who used to work in my dad's construction business in NY I can tell you that when you have three layers of roofing and a foot an half of snow sitting for weeks on a roof on an older house, weight can become a big problem.

If I was spending half that and making $20k I'd entertain it, but spending over $200k I'd expect $50k+
