@Kristopher SmithIf it is a former employer plan, you can transfer it to a solo 401k plan if you are self-employed at least on a part-time basis and then invest the solo 401k in real estate.

There is the well-known risk of a lender triggering the "due on sale clause" if you transfer a property title into an LLC.
