As an economist, this seems the appropriate move -- letting the market find a bottom rather than holding the property, either in a bank portfolio or on the FDIC's books, until the "market recovers" or the bid reaches the current loan balance.Bryan, from the article (and reading between the lines) it appears that a number of players in that deal took a hit, not all of them were Federally insured financial institutions.
