When we heard the owner who lived in one of the other two units had passed away, we contacted the family to express our interest in purchasing, knowing the chance was low that any family member would want to live in the condo. 

@Zach Mitchell, I think I used the wrong terminology in expressing what I'm trying to do.  

At the time, I can't express how much it hurt to walk away but I figured out there was no way I was going to make any money at that price. 

They've expressed interest in a long term lease as well as the occupant of a third unit. 

Then pursue the other options expressed in the thread.
