Found the wood in the trim/moulding section in Lowes and it wasn't visible to the casual viewer unless they got down and looked up under the counter overhang.Next I tackled a really bad caulk job behind the sink and there I found evidence of dry rot that the caulk was covering.

I have a zero tolerance policy for carpeting.I often replace old windows with new energy efficient units.Fresh paint throughout--choose one wall color, one ceiling color and one trim color from the same brand and use it for every house.

Then I prepped the entire interior for a major cosmetic rehab - took all the trim down and sanded it to bare wood, took down 2 rooms of ceilings, 1 room of flooring and 1 bdrm wall that had old water damage.

We went with adding a nice rock fireplace for looks  possible smell and I had ran across a nice insert with brass trimmed glass doors super cheapSo it was used on the only fire job we did just like Steven S mentioned (we thought we could still smelled smoke and the fireplace would be a natural cause)
