The idea that she's just baffled and doesn't know anything about technology, if true, is *her fault*.

But, with the rise of technology (internet, Zillow, BP, etc, ), It has become more efficient and competitive, reducing the edge for investors.So, to be competitive, you may need to expand your skills and find other options, like* value added opportunities.

Instead, vertical integration means forming a management company and bringing in the right systems, technology, and teams to run it. 

I have a client who works in the cell phone space; his company builds the chips that do wireless charging (every phone company but Apple uses his chips, and he said that Apple under Cook is a terrible company to try to work with).Anyways, according to him the cell phone technology has basically plateaued for the foreseeable future, as there is really not much else that can be done in the terms of technological innovation with the phone.
