While most if it is universally applicable, in the areas of finance, regulation and taxation much of the content is focussed on the U.S.A. market and you will find things different in Canada (particularly in PQ).There are a number of Canadians roaming the site, including a handful from MTL; just give a shout out if you have Canadian / Quebec specific questions.

I am actually consider investing in Canada with US dollars a significant advantage...some of you may not know that the Canadian dollar has dropped to $0.80 compared to the USD....that's a 20% discount right off the bat!

@Preston WilkinsDue to Canadian privacy law, things such as foreclosure lists, probate lists, delinquent mortgage lists, etc. are difficult to produce and, in most instances, illegal to sell or distribute.As a province, Ontario uses power of sale in lieu of judicial foreclosure, so the first public notification will be a "Notice of Sale" in the classifieds section of the local newspaper and/or in The Ontario Gazette.

@Sergey S.I doubt this is just a Canadian phenomenon.Many communities have zoning classes which emphasize single family dwellings and rather than permitting duplexes, introduce the concept of an accessory apartment (aka Granny Suite).
