The only reason it might not make sense is if you don't use it, because it does cost money to obtain it (about $2,500) and maintain it (another $1,500-$2,500/yr).

Really depends on what has been maintained and updated over the years.

This includes ensuring that the building is maintained well, heated, cooled, etc. 

Maintaining good cleanersDebating whether to stay in the cabin ourselves for holidays, or rent as those days are lucrative.having to pay for a cleaning crew for personal stays.

It has been a really good business but we maintain control while renters are on the boats and can shut down anything that add too much excessive liability. 

Im assuming there wont be much to "fix" to make it rental ready as SEC 8 has requirements to maintain things and are inspected regularly. 

We have been to the area (not the individual property) and it is in a gated, well maintained community, with private security and 2 golf courses.

But over 95% of the stays there were no problems, and I'm blessed that my LTR tenant has great pride of ownership in our property so he looks out for the property and has even offered to help maintain  parts of the outside of the duplex to ensure my STR guests always have a great overall impression of the property upon arrival.

Maybe you will comment on that too as part of what you're willing to accept to maintain cash flow/performance.
