I know a ton of people who even moved to the maritimes but I don't think there is a specific area east where they are heading..Ottawa is always near to top in terms of best places to live in Canada lately so you can't go wrong there.

However, for that same price, you could still purchase a 16-20 unit apartment building in the Maritimes. :-) On the landlord rights issue - In my experience BC, Ontario, PQ, and NS are very tenant friendly.

CAP rates down east in the Maritimes tend to be a little better (6-9), but nothing like you will find in the U.S.A. rust-belt.
