I like to add a nice tile backsplash in the kitchen and upgrade bathrooms with tile shower surrounds because I can do those myself and they add a lot of value.

The listing boasted 'NEW' Kitchen & Bath and they were blinded by the clean white kitchen cabinets/tumbled marble backsplash and new vanity in the main bath that they didn't see how cheaply it was done.

If you want to add a backsplash and change out the countertop you should definitely hire someone if you don't have the time or experience to mess around with it.
