If an STR isn't getting high occupancy, you can always repurpose it to a long-term furnished rental or dump the furniture and do a traditional unfurnished rental.

You may be able to boot strap and source used furniture from craigslist, facebook, etc, but its still going to cost you a few grand at a minimum to get everything you need. and more like $5 or $6K to do it right with new furniture.

Also don't make any promises to replace or repair, any of damaged items of the tenants, that is what renter's insurance is for,, you can suggest and help move furniture, and items , raise up with boards, or get to a higher location. to keep out of the water.
