Not trendy, just light and fresh and warm.But, if otherwise everything is functional and clean and not god-awful, you should be fine - assuming you're not in a really rich trendy area that absolutely demands granite countertops

Just wanted to add as well to make sure owner turns over security deposits and all documentation he has on tenant like application, move-in inspection, any pictures at move-in in case tenant disputes condition (like says the countertop was chipped before moving in).

You have the right to modify your living space to the extent necessary to make the space safe and comfortable, as long as the modifications will not make the unit unacceptable to the next tenant, or if you agree and are financially able to undo the modification when you leave.Examples of modifications undertaken by a disabled tenant include: lowering countertops for a tenant who uses a wheelchairinstalling special faucets or door handles for persons with limited hand usemodifying kitchen appliances to accommodate a blind tenant, andinstalling a ramp to allow wheelchair access to a raised living room.These modifications must be reasonable and made with prior approval.

The dishwasher drain hose is supposed to come out of the dishwasher, go all the way up to the bottom of the countertop, and then back down to connect to the sink drain or Disposall.

I had a tenant stay for 2 years in my apartment and they did more damage than when I lived there for 8 years (broke washroom door handle lock, toilet paper roll, bent blinds, tons of scuff marks on walls, granite counter top is somehow scratched, etc.)2) They also won't negotiate rent increases well since they only take a %, an increase doesn't usually mean much to them at all.
