I know this doesn't directly answer your question, but setting something up like this for the future would likely eliminate this problem next time. 

I want to be involved with investors who want to bring technology into their business and futurize (I'm not sure if that is a word) the industry.

He knew it was a lesson the employee would never forget and would make him much wiser in the future. 

Usually the first clearing will give the property value but you will want to put a number on how much and future clearings will just maintain that value.
