I find the whole maggot comment by your insurer to be a brush-off: there is (way too much) information on maggot infestation online that requires a food source (and it references dog feces as a source...geez).

Hey all,I'm currently rehabbing a split level house that has a 16' x 8' deck in the front of the house.The deck is built about 4 feet from the ground and leads to the front door.I had my landscaper remove a ton of overgrown weeds/ brush from underneath/ around the deck, but now it looks quite bare with the exposed beams atop a pile of mulch. 

(They’re so small as to be like a speck of dirt so i can’t see them in the finished paint job at all, I just know I brushed over them while cutting in!)
