Put some cash this morning in an ETF  munifund: SHYD pays 3%.I  am lucky to have a fixed annuity that pays 3%; bought a while ago and can move cash in and out when I want.

Some people COCR is the only number that matters, the percentage measuring their success.Checking & Savings accounts give less than 1%Fixed Annuities will give 1-3% (depends on surrender period)Stocks/Mutual Funds are 4-8%Indexed Annuities are 3-12%Real Estate has greater returns 8-30% (no money down will make that number higher), so which percentage do you wamt to see on your investment?"

These companies got in trouble because they were insuring mortgage back securities (Credit default swaps, derivatives), their ALMOST demise was NOT because of their life insurance or annuity holdings and the holdings subsequent investment strategy.The companies I have referred to throughout this thread are mutual companies.

Think the old whole life insurance policies that paid a very low return on the "hidden" investment aspect, and how by purchasing term insurance seperating as the "consumerable" good and a seperate annuity (if this was the type of investment desired) your return was increased by 3-5% per year with no additional risk."
