Just as it is your choice to buy gas even though the oil company Execs are making Billions.Decide if the value is worth it to you, and don't fret about how much the person that made it happen is getting.  

I think the instructions called for luan but I was thinking oil based paint over osb, plywood, or concrete might work and cost less.

If it's on heating oil, those bills hit like a punch in the gut this time of year.

We are in energy country, oil fields and wind energy.

Traditionally it's been more of a boom/bust affected by Oil+Gas. 

I currently work in the oil field.

This would be in a very big oil area with lots of potential.

I could handle all plumbing and heating issues (except oil and electric) with a minimum wage helper.

Don’t look at paying rent as “wasted money”... more appropriately you should look at it as buying patience and time for first hand education.Working as a flight instructor or launching your aviation career can sometimes be a thin existence (unless you’re subsidizing that habit with your big oil job).
