all of these investments are long term.. if your going to play the ups and downs then it needs to be your day job and or like some guys i know that are micro traders and sit at there computer making 10 to 15 minutes trades.. to me its way to boring.

There are probably other variables I would add (5 year GDP, crime stats, sports teams, number of Targets/Walmarts, number of Whole Foods/Trader Joe's, Fortune 1000 Companies, major universities, last 5 years of population growth, price/income, price/rent) and also add a weighting system, but I think it's a good start.I'm making my own spreadsheet for this purpose.Search market analysis here on BP for other helpful forums.

@Michael L. that might benefit you if you are a professional trader and have trader tax status so you would be able to deduct losses that would be regarded as ordinary rather than capital.
