I have been investing in real estate in the Bay Area (and elsewhere) for almost 25 years and the performance over this time between our Bay Area assets and out of area assets simply has no comparison in terms of genuine wealth building. 

The area has transformed into a higher-skilled labor market and is more accessible due to lower costs compared to San Francisco and San Jose.

I'm not arguing, I genuinely want to know if there is something I'm missing about this whole thing.

Most of them were older than me, so I genuinely wanted to get their wisdom & perspective.

Decentralization is a trend in almost every industry - where smaller players innovate and transform an industry, opening doors for other smaller players to compete.

You would do well to think about that a bit and try to restrain your attitude when dealing with people who genuinely are trying to provide good advice.
