Would it be worthwhile to submeter a building as small as an 8 unit with a (8) 1Bd/1Ba unit mix?

I put price last because (again, I'm biased) I think that whatever extra you pay a good, highly reputable attorney is going to be worthwhile in the end.

Everything worthwhile takes work.

My experience has been that it's worthwhile to do things "by the book" rather than risk stop work orders, civil penalties, and  even criminal charges.You might consider talking to local contractors and getting their input.Good luck!

Unless you are buying a container worth of stuff I am not sure it is worthwhile to get RTA cabinets from China because of shipping vs. cost of getting them in USA.For smaller orders I have done ikea and have had no issues with them

This is something I've been doing... cash-out refi on two properties gave me a downpayment on a 4plex that allowed me to borrow several hundred more at the good rates.Tricky part is assigning that debt to something worth while.  

I have been told the corporate veil can be pierced during litigation IF there is enough equity to make it worth while.

If you're getting to motivated sellers, then the appointment is worthwhile.
