Tape the flats, light knock down texture, crown moulding so you don't have to tape the corners.

A roof + porch will add depth and texture to the house.

Try to stay away from things like drywall where matching texture would be involvled.  

The texture on the ceiling and some of the walls were a hard plaster, which was a pain to scrape and float, all without any heat (the hvac was being replaced.)
