The can of worms may be a lot of money bringing it up to current code if and if/where it isn't up to code.

If it is a shed and you get a code violation/red tagged from the city you will run into problems when you go to sell.

In my own town, I was able to bring the unpermitted addition on my house up to current code and it was approved.

Robin, contact the City of Syracuse Codes office and request an inspection for the certificate of occupancy and let the building fail and then request the city place a condemned or similar notice. 

Its a 3 bed 2 bath 1056 sq ft Mobile home that is currently rented in a C area that is experiencing growth all around it, i.e. several multimillion dollar houses have been built within minutes and within the same zip code.
