@Theresa Harris They did maintain it sometimes (in the summer when they grew vegetables) but I don't believe they were happy when I cut down the trees in the lot (had to they were just really overgrown and not manageable). 

For our multiplex properties we take care of everything else as well, except for the garden beds if tenants want to plant flowers/vegetables and tend to them.

Let me give you my perspective on the question itself and then I'll share what I have done.Your question is perfect, but super hard to answer because it is like asking "which is better - fruits or vegetables"?

I think it is one of the most versatile trades and worthy of a lifetime of study.  

However, if I'm having friends or family stay at my house I have the option of opening it up so my house then becomes a 3bed 3.5ba - it's a pretty versatile setup. 

Eggs, butter, fruits, vegetables, herbs, peanut butter, many condiments, jam, honey, breads, etc can all be left unrefrigerated.

I plan on pulling that vegetation out and putting a new Ipe deck in, should look nice!
