I also strongly believe in deferred gratification so when starting out you might not go out weekends to study and save money but as you get older you might get the 300k house instead of the 500k k house because it makes sense.  

I find gratification from making tangible THINGS. 

I think the old Greek would say fear is the emotion that would compel someone to invest in either. an innate feeling of survivalism from joining the herd or flock.Its pretty obvious that Aristotle doesn't get out to your job sites that often:"to cause shame to the victim, not in order that anything may happen to you, nor because anything has happened to you, but merely for your own gratification.... its cause is this: naive men think that by ill-treating others they make their own superiority the greater."

For comparison, I once worked a job supporting crappy software and I loathed it to the same degree, I now work a job developing awesome stuff and there's so much more gratification.

In October, Miami-Dade County passed an ordinance that hosts in unincorporated Dade County must sign up for a certificate of use, register for a business tax receipt, screen for sexual offenders and enforce a number of “vacation rental standards” on their guests.  

Nobody delays gratification anymore.

I have had good success with tenants paying, garnishing wages and have had tenants come back years later to settle their debts.Personally I like having the gratification of destroying their credit ratings.
