I will be heading to NH in the coming week to explore some homes.

Without proven local vendors that you can rely on to be honest, knowledgeable, and fairly priced, you will be heading into a downward spiral of more and more expenses for patchwork repairs that will soon force your hand to make major repairs.

Now, intl investing, different story for an entire new set of risks that I would be head cheerleader to stay away from unless you have $ to burn, think bungie jumping off a bridge is kids stuff, etc...you know what I mean.

Investing in 1-3 houses to "try" to swing big isn't really worth it if you're going to be heading to retirement soon.
