I was in Portland in September, and clearly the home I stayed in (airbnb) was someone's second or investment home...So if one does not comply, what is the "punishment"?

@Dave Adell Here in Illinois, condo violations typically needs to be punished with progressive discipline.

Late fees are a punishment and intended as a deterrent.

Too many landlords have been convinced by lazy landlords that it is simply is not worth expending the time and money chasing debt and punishing these indivules. 

But I think , in this specific scenario , I don't feel your mistake was big , but depending on your situation , if that 100 $ was your cash flow , then the punishment was bigger .I would see if they officially as per contract - made that statement about rent .

(kind of feels like I'm getting punished for buying well, but oh well).Greatly appreciate leads for long term 15-30 year amortization loans that will loan on the appraised value.

It doesn't change what exists currently though and the lack there of shouldn't punish the people that took the time to do the work to get the animal.

If a landlord is not charging full market rent and trying to sell they must be punished for having operated a very inefficient business.

It is a criminal violation punishable by a fine of up to $1,000.00.Ask a real state specific attorney or even your local fair housing authority contact on what the law states about your rights.

Life punishes those who are vague.
