I've also heard quite a few stories of active duty people buying investment properties around each new duty station.

My apologies - I didn't mean to be so abrupt and short with my answer but honestly, the email you received just hit a chord with me.Imagine a gas station sending you an SMS telling you that they would no longer sell gas to you if you don't start driving more.

My dilemma is whether I use my VA loan for the multi family which will turn into an investment property after I change duty stations in two years or save that VA loan for my personal residence once I establish more permanent roots upon competition of my service. 

My course of action would be to purchase a multi family using my VA, live in one of the units until I move duty stations (about 2 years) , then keep it as an investment property.

(I guess I assume you can't physically see the place because you're stationed somewhere and not because the property is not allowing showings?)
