"Mentor" in real estate or business seems about as charged as "Soul Mate" in dating - it's a big word that implies a lot of responsibility and can scare people off if used too early (or even at all).What I usually recommend instead is that people just network with other investors of all levels, meeting beginning and more experienced investors one on one for coffee/tea/whatever, and maybe forming a small group of people about the same level to help each other, called a mastermind group.

When I first bought my 8 unit, I had to have a friend who was a property manager email me a blank lease and show me how to fill it out (we met the tenant at a tea shop and the three of us wrote up the lease).

I don't have that problem anymore but I learned that truth the hard way.If on the other hand, you don't thrive with details or managing people is not your cup of tea, then by all means find a good GC to work with.
