I agree with everyone else here who highlighted the importance of staying on top of maintenance in old buildings, we achieve regular inspections through filter changes and CO2/smoke detector battery changes.

So I want everything battery powered.

I have had an issue with it and it doesn't need internet or batteries.

KEEP FRESH CHARGED BATTERIES IN SMOKE DETECTORS AT ALL TIMES.

It works wirelessly off of my wifi signal and an internal rechargeable battery.  

Wife at one point texted me at 2am in the morning because the smoke alarm battery went out.

The boat does run on shore power when docked and has back up batteries for the bilge pumps if the power goes out. 

Granted you may not be able to take nice vacations or things like that, but even just taking a day to hang out with your family, or veg out on the couch can recharge the batteries allowing you to come back to work way stronger.
