I would not worry about lead or any asbestos unless you live in a city ran by insane liberals that have strict laws on these . 

In my market (Oakland & California), 1 in 3 purchase transactions involving a mortgage does not close at all -- and that's all loans, including vanilla 20% down owner occ SFR with very liberal guidelines.

Be a little liberal in your repair cost estimates.

JScott-I don't have to be an expert on this stuff to realize that liberal driven ideas are crazy.

But that's not always true; a lot of the things we got during the Roosevelt years were pretty liberal, relatively speaking, for the times - unemployment insurance, social security, etc.
