If fridges fail it is often the compressor or something related to it and in that case the fridge is toast.

But the resulting surface won't generally be perfect, so you generally texture it.....also not hard to do with an air compressor and one of those texturing hoppers from HD, and a little practice.  

Andy Petzold I've noticed dealing with many older and even newer fridges cleaning the compressor on the rear of the fridge can solve lots of cooling problems.

I have heard of owners setting J-Bolts in the cement pad when an outdoor compressor is placed and then drilling holes in the bottom of the unit where the bolts come up from the pad so that the unit can be bolted to the pad from the inside.
