If the house is on a hill and is sloping down, I would guess that the fill was not compacted correctly and settlement has occurred.

Although the new builds out in Madison that I owned the builders excavated down and then filled and compacted and put in proper drainage.. the houses in So jack that are 30 to 60 years old are simply not built to the same standards.

Here in Tennessee we too have a law that gives tenancy rights after one-night of sleeping over, so long as they have personal belongings with them (clothes, toothbrush, etc.).
