I was just as confused as you were, though, by this terminology and was wondering what good a screen door would do them, but they did clarify a black metal security door when we spoke on the phone.

They exist in both plastic and metal, but I think I'd use plastic in a bathroom. 

Run an add on craigslist for this as someone is always willing to work for cheap if you give them the scrap metal.

Put the new furnace next to it, and have the HVAC tech swap over the electric, gas/oil pipe, flue pipe, and water lines or ducts (use flex duct rather than having sheet metal bent).
