@Joseph Schreiber I would begin educating yourself on multifamily, and would look to deploy your capital into apartments.

Last year I was deployed for most of the year.

You've already gotten a lot of really awesome feedback, but I would add one thing: you don't have to deploy all that cash right now!

As for our deals, well, we saved up re-enlistment bonus, tax free, hostile fire, & family sep while deployed...we got very aggressive about saving up for the down payments.  

When you come across right investment opportunity you can sell your holdings (this typically takes one business day) and have funds available to deploy into another investment next business day.Keep in mind however the risk of being in the market.

The cap rates in those asset classes have already compressed and they are saturated with people looking to deploy active and passive income into.For over 10 years, I have been screaming from the mountain tops to invest in office, retail, industrial, land development, flex, warehouse, mixed use, restaurants and conversions.

If you will be deploying a lot it will be the best solution.
