But if you have the dough, you can start elsewhere.No in-house contractors per se...everyone is independent contractors but the maintenance guys I use are pretty much in house.If you are looking in Chicago, I am a big advocate of Pilsen and Little Village.

I'd echo @Stan Sugarman suggestion to visit on different days/times.I have found rental houses in SE and SW Atlanta to be profitable, but I also believe it is riskier than investing in more affluent areas.
