My biggest hurtle of all of this is going to be convincing my father that this will work.

Because they can cause problems by chewing, digging, scratching, defecating, urinating, barking, biting, vomiting, etc.What animal is most likely to participate in this bad behavior?

The dogs urinated all over the floor and I will have to tear up and replace the floors, sheetrock, etc. 

I like to say, "cat urine is the smell of money" because it's an issue people normally don't want to deal with it, and so a deal can be made if you're willing to deal with it.
