I have lived in Hawaii for many years but now that I’m a traveling healthcare provider, I am off island more often than not.When I’m not on contract I would love to have a place to return to and when I’m away I would love to rent it out for some additional income.

I’ve been around real estate for decades, and I read in The Economist once that in lively markets like Charlotte, folks will pay a premium for a comfortable room if you’re near major employers.A friend of mine tried something similar out in Austin a while back.. he’d inherited a 4-bedroom property and split it into individual room rentals.

I want to start investing in real estate in America in the near future, since I am not in America, I live in Europe, more precisely in Serbia, any advice and contact will mean a lot to me.

Where do you live?

Even if all the numbers pencil out, if no one wants to live there, I'm going to have a hard time making the numbers work, whether I'm selling a flip or renting out a property. 

Currently all I own is a 70-year old house that I live in--it is in good shape but needs updates.
