It's almost the same as if you buy a home and then rent it to your cousin or brother, and then they can't pay rent this month, next month, or the next month and that happens. 

So, I have an option to buy my brother's house and I would buy it subject to.

My brother has the same 10 units (2 separate sets of 5-unit) townhouses built next to this property so I will be using a floor plan similar to his units. 

On my first visit to California in 1986, my brother, who had just moved to Ridgecrest to work on the base, drove me through there. 

I need to borrow $50,000 from my brother for about 2 weeks.

I would essentially “rent” to my brother-in-law and still live in the house.  

I am contemplating taking over my mother in laws home (she passed in 2021) if my brother in law decides it is too much for him to handle.

I don't have the Koch brothers on speed dial.

BackgroundI own a 2 bed, 2 bath condo in Warm Springs, Fremont, CA (near Tesla - Lennar / Toll Brothers construction) that I'm currently renting out (long term). 

According to FHA Guidelines; a family member can be a parent, sister, brother etc….So my question is this: Can I buy a multifamily unit with 3.5% down as long as one of my Family members is living in one of the units?
