We have a few out-of-province rentals and fund some flips. 

In one area where I invest, the province lists all of the assessments.

Yet only one province (a smaller one with less expensive homes) had a larger increase. 

Speaking with people might save you from doing the wrong type of investment, getting to know that investing in real estate is not a unicorn type of passive investing (even if there is a way of doing this also).That being said, there are other ''schools'' in the province that are more specialized in a different type of investing, different prices and different people are there too, depending of what you prefer.

For deposits, I know how much they gave me and there is a program on the provinces website that I can use to figure out how much interest I am supposed to give to them when they move out.

I realize Abbotsford isn't a glorious a 1% or cash-flow heavy city which is the principals BiggerPockets was built on but investing out of state/province isn't for everyone.

We had issues with money laundering in our province over the last 5-10 years or so. 

Two places where I have rentals, the move out list provided by the province states that the carpets must be professionally cleaned.
