I lived in Germany renting a penthouse.

While the end-game plays out, salaries will meet in the middle over time which means massive pain for developed countries.The only solution that I'm aware of is to handle it like Germany has.

The reason rates have plunged even more is because everyone is freaked out about what is going on in Europe and they are flocking to USTs with the exception of Germany and the Swiss who have negative real rates on their short term debt right now.

Self storage the small  ones are easy to manage but once you get to 300 to 500 units  you are better off getting into a bigger one as it cost the same to manage 400 than it cost to manage 800cause it will take more capitol, i now have three in Germany safebox-selfstorage and the smallest has 703 units and the largest is 1240 and the cost to operate is the same the tax maybe a little higher but operating cost about the same
