Once you start co-mingling the LLC's business with anything else you give an easy and clear reason for anyone suing you to claim the LLC isn't acting like a separate entity and "pierce the corporate veil" meaning that they could use that as a way to come after your personal assets as well.

In addition an attorney can be a great counselor when you first start the business because they can explain the ins and outs so that you don't end up comingling and allowing the corporate veil to be pierced.

This means that you will probably need to pay registration and filing fees in at least 2 states if you don’t buy CA property as a CA resident.Any lawsuits should be limited to the assets of the LLC and not your personal assets (assuming you run the LLC appropriately and the corporate veil is not pierced, some debate as to SMLLC).

But, in the event you really are persuaded that it is important to separate each asset, ensure that whoever is managing the books/monies on the LLCs are doing it 100% correctly as even a small mistake can allow would-be litigants to pierce the corporate veil and render all of it in vein anyway.
