You can use that as the premise to either forbid the gathering, or to obtain more information on who they intend to have over and for how long.But yeah, I consider that very suspicious, especially the bread/Keto thing like @Paul Sandhu mentioned and "We have a son and daughter in law who lives near Cincinnati who just lost their baby a few months ago" - who casually mentions they lost a grandchild to a total stranger???
