Chinmay, because what you say is true, "trial and error" basically, is why I wrote this piece.  

I've thought about that possibility too, giving it a trial period for a year or two and then seeing if I want to keep it as a rental long term. 

I does elimanite the need for trial and error but if you cant afford it their are alternitive options.

(IE, they prompted me to open an American Express Card, Chase Checkings account, 30 day trial of access to 1000 legal forms, a website & domain, etc...).

Pat, since it sounds like you are still researching software, I would also ask for a free trial so you can play around with the software to see if it covers all of your needs.

If you are that concerned just follow through with trial and error.

Here's what I can tell you:First, yes, it is a big chunk of change, but because real estate is so expensive where I live, I thought it better to spend $15k now than $15k + later for trial and error mistakes.
